The Wilderness Downtown
In another module today we were shown how different companies can "mash" ideas together so that they can appeal to differnt demographics. A band named Arcade Fire (an Indie/Rock band) worked with Google to launch a website for their single "The Wilderness Downtown". They came up with the idea to incorporate Google maps into the video.
Using Google Chrome anyone could log onto the website and type in any address they wanted and the images that Google maps had of that area would be put into the video. Once you had watched the video you had the option of "postacrding" it to your friends. I thought this was a really creative idea as it gave the band a wider audience to launch their music too. I had never listened to Acade Fire before but after seeing the video and hearing thier song I would go out and buy their album.
It also helped Google too as because you needed Google Chrome to view the website. It gave them a boost in their downloads for their browser aswell as helping the band. It was win win situation.
The address for the site is http://thewildernessdowntown.com/
